Unable to register a custom subdomain on Netlify

I am trying to follow the instructions listed here:

I was able to create a CNAME record to point to sad-ride-e2b8f5.netlify.app. Which I verified using digg.

I tried to log into netlify and set the custom domain (https://app.netlify.com/sites/sad-ride-e2b8f5/settings/domain#custom-domains)

The wizard states that “custom_domain is owned by another account” but I am sure that it is not. The custom domain that I am trying to register is comp [dot] ophthalmology [dot] uw [dot] edu

Hey there, this is happening because the custom domain you’re trying to use already exists on Netlify under a different account.

If you have some idea of who might be using the domain (maybe a previous collaborator or an agency you’ve worked with in the past?), the quickest way to get this resolved is for you to contact that person directly and ask them to remove the domain from their account here:

https://app.netlify.com/sites/SITE-NAME/settings/domain#custom-domains > “Options” dropdown > “Remove domain”

If you’re not sure, please verify domain ownership and let us know by responding here when that’s done. If the verification is successful we can remove the domain from the other account so you can use it on yours.

Hello,

I believe there is another issue here. The apex domain belongs to it’s rightful owner:

ophthalmology [dot] uw [dot] edu

We are trying to register the subsubdomain:
comp [dot] ophthalmology [dot] uw [dot] edu

Please do not remove the other user access but please help us add the correct subsubdomain.

Hi, @aaronylee. I believe you have a support ticket open for this and we have replied to you there.

If you don’t receive that message though, please feel free to follow-up here to let us know.
