Unable to enable auto-renewal of domain

Hi, I have a recently expired domain, I’d like to renew but I get the “unable to update auto renew” error message when I click the “Enable auto-renewal” button on my team’s domain page. (Similar issue as here: https://answers.netlify.com/t/unable-to-renew-error-need-help-to-renew-dns/17910)

I’m aware that I’ll be charged for the renewing.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @balazssagi yes, you won’t be able to self-serve on renewing an expired domain. I can help, but I do need you to confirm that your credit card is up to date and functioning before I can attempt to renew for you. This would be the one shown here: Netlify App

The cost will be $14.99 to renew through 25 Jul 2021. Let me know, and then I can proceed.

Hi fool, the credit card is up to date. Thank you for your help!

Hey @balazssagi,
All renewed for another year! Let us know if there’s anything else we can help with.

I have the same problem, can you attempt to renew my domain for me please? My credit card is up to date.

Hi, @Luiz-Adorno. For the first 30 days after a domain expires we can generally still renew the domain for the original renewal fee.

For this domain, the time window for this has passed and the domain is currently in the redemption period. Here is the WHOIS data for this domain:

   Domain Name: MARKTINS.COM
   Registry Domain ID: 2440658643_DOMAIN_COM-VRSN
   Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.name.com
   Registrar URL: http://www.name.com
   Updated Date: 2020-11-18T07:59:29Z
   Creation Date: 2019-10-05T23:04:40Z
   Registry Expiry Date: 2020-10-05T23:04:40Z
   Registrar: Name.com, Inc.
   Registrar IANA ID: 625
   Registrar Abuse Contact Email: abuse@name.com
   Registrar Abuse Contact Phone: 7202492374
   Domain Status: clientTransferProhibited https://icann.org/epp#clientTransferProhibited
   Domain Status: redemptionPeriod https://icann.org/epp#redemptionPeriod
   DNSSEC: unsigned
URL of the ICANN Whois Inaccuracy Complaint Form: https://www.icann.org/wicf/

# whois.name.com

You can find more information on the redemption period here:

https://icann.org/epp#redemptionPeriod

When more time passes the domain will become completely unregistered. Once that happens it can then be registered again.

If there are other questions, please let us know.

Hi, Luke. I need to register this domain as soon as possible, do I have to wait until it is completely canceled? Or I can renew it during the redemption period?

You could try reaching out to name.com customer support. We are a reseller of name.com domains, and while your domain is no longer in our name.com account, you could be able to buy it directly from them.

Let us know how that goes!

Hi Laura, i got a new domain on godaddy (marktins.com.br) and i used Netlify to put the site on, but i can’t enable automatic TLS certificates with Let’s Encrypt like i used to do with my oldest domain marktins.com and shows this error:

what can I do? thankss

You’ll need to get in touch with your prior DNS host, to have them disable DNSSEC on that domain. It is broken (for more than just netlify, also many visitors will not be able to see it if you get that error) at present, until they apply that fix.

Sadly there is nothing we can do from our side to affect this (our system does not support DNSSEC)

Hi, @jen @luke

Compliments of the season.

I want to get this domain renewed. “www.panets.org” It expired 2 days ago.

My payment details are up to date. It was registered through Netilify.

Thanks.

@kodeGenius Happy to help! Please confirm you accept the renewal fee of $14.99/year and we’ll take care of it!

Thanks, @laura. I accept, Please go-ahead.

Hello @laura, the domain has not been renewed. let me know the issue, please.

@laura, Apologies, my bad. Just check again. It’s UP now!

Thanks.

Hi, @kodeGenius. The domain was renewed but now there is a billing issue. If you check your billing page you will see two charges pending not one for the renewal (which is an error). There should only be a single renewal charge. (Note, we haven’t billed your card yet - these are only pending charges at this time.)

We are working on getting this corrected and we will let you know when this is resolved with another update here. If there are questions, please reply anytime and we will have another update here soon.

@luke, thanks. That’s fine.

Hey all, Hope you’re all doing well.
Looking for the same help with the same problem. Bought my domain through netlify and it should still be <30 days since i could have renewed but got the error listed.
My site: josephruocco.netlify.app
DNS domain: josephruocco.com
Expired on Jan 6, 2021
My payment method has a registered credit card.

If you can resolve the issue, I accept the payment fee.
Thanks

@kodeGenius We got the billing issue cleaned up! We will attempt to charge the card you have on file on January 16th for your domain purchase of $14.99. Let us know if you have any questions in the meantime!

Hey @josephruocco,
Apologies for the slow response here, but we have successfully renewed your domain. You can see the new expiration date and enable auto-renewal here if you want: Netlify App

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can help with!
