Github pages migration to Netlify

I’m trying to move our website ( from GitHub pages to Netlify, and I’m running into an issue. I’ve changed the CNAME entry on Namecheap (which we use for hosting) to point to the new netlify site, which is live and can be accessed directly at I’ve unpublished the github page, but I’m still getting: “Another site is already using this domain” error when trying to set custom domain “” on site “stoic-bassi-95bd87.” I get ‘not found’ when I try to access via the browser. The linux command dig +nostats + nocomments +nocmd shows 60 IN CNAME Can anyone offer any guidance here?

howdy, welcome to netlify, happy to have you on board!

this is happening because the custom domain you’re trying to use already exists on Netlify under a different account.

If you have some idea of who might be using the domain (maybe a previous collaborator or an agency you’ve worked with in the past?), the quickest way to get this resolved is for you to contact that person directly and ask them to remove the domain from their account here: > “Options” dropdown > “Remove domain”

If you’re not sure, please verify domain ownership and let us know by responding here when that’s done. If the verification is successful we can remove the domain from the other account so you can use it on yours.

Hi Perry, thanks for your help!

I’ve added a TXT record with host: “@” and value: “verified-for-netlify.” So I’m ready for the next verification step.

Some more insight into what might be the cause of the problem: we have more than one subdomain for the same apex domain, and each subdomain is managed by a different person (different Netlify accounts), so while may not be used by another netlify account, is. Is this the cause of the problem? Is it possible to have each subdomain point to a Netlify site under a different account?

Hi Perry,

I’m hoping to get back up in the next two days because we are having an event on Sunday that is going to be driving a lot of traffic to the site. Is it possible to remove the domain from the other account soon so we can use it on mine?
