Change region of static site

Hi there,

Great service. I’m hosting a simple Vue SPA as a static site with you folks. Wondering what region the app is sitting in? I’m in Sydney and am hoping to serve local requests faster of possible.

hi there, what is the netlify site name? thats a great place to start

Hi Perry. Sorry about that!

Site here

Hi, @modermo, you can see where any Netlify site is being served from by doing a DNS lookup for your site or any site other on hosted Netlify. You can also get the the IP address from the network tab of the browser’s developer tools.

Important: Do the DNS lookup from your local computer. As the following example proves, the IP address you will get as an answer is dependent on your location:

https://dnschecker.org/#A/example.netlify.app

If you use a website to do the lookup, the answer will be for the location of the server doing the DNS lookup which likely won’t be the same location as your web browser.

So, locally, do this lookup:

$ nslookup example.netlify.app
Server: 8.8.8.8
Address:	8.8.8.8#53

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:	example.netlify.app
Address: 104.248.78.24

My result was 104.248.78.24. You’re in Sydney so I would expect a IP address like 54.206.19.82 for your answer.

You can then find the location of the IP address by doing your own GeoIP lookup, for example here:

https://www.maxmind.com/en/geoip-demo

Now you know the approximate location of the system being used to answer for your request.
